About the Role

Grocery is Uber’s fastest growing business line, delighting customers with next-hour delivery of household essentials from their favorite local stores. The Delivery Experience team is focused on building best-in-class products and technology to help shoppers fulfill grocery orders.

The Delivery Experience team is looking for a strong Backend engineer to help build the next generation of fulfillment tools to allow shoppers to quickly and accurately pick and pack items. As a backend engineer, you'll be responsible for features from the inception to launch. You'll collaborate closely with engineers across the tech stack and be expected to give input on how we design new experiences for our shoppers.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

1. Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable and reliable backend systems for Shopper Experience team
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, product managers, and other engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
3. Develop and enhance our platform infrastructure to support advanced analytics and experimentation capabilities.
4. Implement robust developer and testing infrastructure to streamline development workflows and ensure high-quality code.
5. Drive continuous improvement in system architecture and operational excellence, with a focus on performance, scalability, and maintainability.
6. Stay current with the latest technologies and industry trends, evaluating and integrating new tools and methodologies as appropriate.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
2. Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or Go.
3. Strong experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture
4. Proven track record in designing and implementing large-scale, high-performance systems.
5. Experience with data analytics and experimental design in an engineering context.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
7. 5+ years of experience as a Backend engineer

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

1. Highly efficient coding in Golang, Java or any similar languages.
2. Comfortable dealing with system complexity
3. Strong background in data analytics tools such as Hive, or similar.
4. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks.
5. Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
6. Proven experience of shipping high-quality product features on schedule and with high velocity
7. Great sense of ownership

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.
