Food Safety & Sanitation Manager at Newly Weds Foods The following describes the responsibilities, qualifications and benefits for the role of Food Safety & Sanitation Manager. Responsibilities Execute corporate food safety strategies, policies and procedures at the plant level and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Communicate with related departments to identify food safety hazards and mitigate risks. Manage and direct elements of the Food Safety Plan, including preventive controls and prerequisite programs related to sanitation and allergen control; include monitoring and verification activities. Routinely audit food safety practices, provide feedback to address improvement opportunities, and ensure compliance with local, state and federal food safety requirements (e.g., FDA Food Code, GMPs). Participate in external audits (GFSI, BRC/SQF, customer and 3rd-party audits); analyze findings and implement corrective actions for nonconformances. Assist in planning, supervising and administering sanitation programs to ensure plant cleanliness and regulatory compliance. Conduct sanitation audits, monitor cleaning methods, and validate sanitation objectives. Oversee sanitation and environmental pathogen control; manage Master Cleaning Schedules (MCS) and SSOPs. Provide sanitation/hygiene/GMP training; oversee pest control activities including monitoring, recordkeeping, exclusion practices and treatments. Ensure Occupational Health & Safety compliance, investigate workplace accidents/near-misses, and prepare accident reports with root-cause analysis and corrective actions. Develop and maintain workplace safety procedures, policies and related training; implement actions to reduce workers’ compensation claims. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Environmental Health or related Science field. Minimum 3 years’ experience in food plant operations, food safety, sanitation and/or pest control. Strong knowledge of food safety systems, SSOPs, GMPs; familiarity with OSHA, EPA and standards such as NFPA, NIOSH. Excellent team-building, supervision, and written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office) and ability to work within a food plant environment. Preferred: Supervisory/auditing/regulatory experience in food manufacturing; certifications in Food Safety, HACCP and GMPs; knowledge of GFSI standards and internal/lead auditor certifications (SQF, BRC, FSSC22000).
