Staff Mechanical Process Design Engineer

Redwood Materials is seeking a Staff Mechanical Process Design Engineer to drive the design of components and assemblies for new types of industrial reactors. The team focuses on delivering new technologies to convert waste material from lithium-ion battery recycling into useful products. The role involves owning the design of components and assemblies for new industrial equipment from concept through pilot testing and commercial installations. Experience in design of metals and plastics for medium to high production volumes and driving design-for-manufacturing feedback cycles with contract manufacturers is required. Responsibilities include designing, building, prototyping, and commissioning new industrial reactor designs emphasizing manufacturability and reliability; driving prototyping and build activities; developing mechanical BOM cost models and cost-down initiatives; managing relationships with component vendors and manufacturers; participating in verification and validation testing; executing mechanical FEA simulations; and producing CAD models, engineering drawings, and BOMs. Desired qualifications include a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, expertise in cost-conscious design for interdisciplinary hardware products, design for manufacturing, prototyping, 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), GD&T, vendor management, and mechanical FEA. The role requires physical ability to work hands-on in lab settings and travel less than 10%. The position is full-time with compensation commensurate with experience.
