Soliant is seeking a dedicated and qualified Sign Language Interpreter to provide one-on-one interpreting services for a 10-year-old 5th grade student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The interpreter will support the student throughout the school day, facilitating communication in all academic and extracurricular settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL)
Accompany the student to all classes, school events, and activities to ensure full access to communication
Support classroom engagement and learning while maintaining appropriate interpreter boundaries
Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and the students IEP team to ensure language access and success
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards outlined by RID and applicable educational guidelines
Qualifications:
Valid Virginia certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., EIPA score, RID certification, or state qualification)
Prior experience working with school-aged children, preferably in an educational setting
Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
Knowledge of Deaf culture and the principles of educational interpreting
Professionalism, reliability, and excellent communication skills
Schedule and Location:
This position requires a commitment of 35hours per week, with hours from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Employment is for the duration of the school year, following the academic calendar (August 7, 2025 - May 20, 2026)
