1 | SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

The Senior Network Engineer will be a hands-on leader responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining secure, high-availability network infrastructure at both enterprise and operational (energy site) levels. This role requires deep technical proficiency, sound judgment, and a bias toward action—someone who thrives in complex environments and understands the real-world consequences of downtime. This role requires deep expertise in Cisco and Juniper environments.

2 | MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the hands-on design, deployment, and continuous improvement of secure, scalable, and high-performing networks across One Power’s offices and critical infrastructure sites.
  • Own the reliability and security of our networking environments—drive uptime, speed, and resilience with a proactive mindset.
  • Configure and manage core networking hardware, including Cisco and Juniper switches, routers, firewalls, VPN concentrators, and wireless systems.
  • Define and enforce robust network security policies aligned with NIST, CIS, and internal compliance frameworks.
  • Establish and maintain clean IP schemas, routing policies, VLANs, and access controls across enterprise and remote locations.
  • Continuously monitor and troubleshoot performance issues across BGP, VPN, LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, and other key protocols and services.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for issues and network attacks.
  • Research and integrate new technologies that enhance cybersecurity posture, performance, and cloud/edge integration.
  • Develop and maintain thorough documentation: diagrams, standards, configurations, and change management plans.
  • Collaborate with the IT and field operations teams to support disaster recovery, maintenance windows, and future-ready infrastructure planning.
  • Document network designs, configurations, topology diagrams, and change procedures.
  • Support the broader IT infrastructure team with maintenance and business continuity planning.

3 | ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the Director of IT; no supervisory responsibilities at this time. Will work with IT and engineering teams.

4 | SKILLS:

  • Proven expertise in Layer 2/3 networking and IT infrastructure protocols: TCP/IP, UDP, BGP, OSPF, DHCP, DNS, NAT, VPN, as well as practical experience with LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, tunneling, and integration with core services.
  • Deep technical expertise in network routing, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), internet filtering, anti-virus technology, application security.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper switches, routers, firewalls: configuration, setup, troubleshooting.
  • Vulnerability testing, planning/implementing ongoing monitoring programs.
  • Experience in network hardening, segmentation and high availability.
  • Demonstrated experience using network packet tracing tools (e.g., Wireshark, tcpdump, WinDump, and embedded tools in Cisco and Juniper devices).
  • Scripting and automation experience (e.g. Python, Ansible, PowerShell) is a strong plus.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, JNCIS, JNCIP) are highly desired. (Neither is required)
