Job Description

Description Job Summary: The Healthcare Financial Analyst performs and assists with financial analysis, planning and reporting of hospital and clinic operations to assist management in making sound business decisions. Responsible for gathering and reporting of statistics, and compiling benchmarking information. Assists in preparing accurate and accountable multi-year financial forecasts to support leadership planning activities and decision making. Involved in all areas including but not limited to: Business planning, validation/implementation of new products or services, long range financial planning, revenue and expense analysis, etc. Extracts, aggregates, validates, interprets, and presents financial and operational data from varied data sources. Acts as a financial resource for directors assisting them by providing training in interpretation of financial data. The position is the point of contact for program analysis, statistical record keeping and provider compensation analytics. In support of financial sustainability and transparency, the position is expected to provide independent audit, analysis, and decision support to appropriate executive management. Prepare a variety of internal and external reports as requested.

  • Clinical Personnel : Strictly adheres to standard precautions by adhering to the usage of personal protective equipment when handling blood or body fluids.
  • Non-Clinical Personnel : Washes hands and other skin surfaces with soap and water thoroughly and often controls spreading of germs within the department and facility.
  • Always adheres to isolation procedures as applicable.

· Adheres to the following environmental care standards. 

  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of safety policies and procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, hazardous material procedures, and safety codes.
  • Respond appropriately to any Codes while working any shift (Code Blue, Code Gray, Code Silver, Code Amber, Code Red, Code Orange, and Rapid Response Team).
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of security issues, i.e., personal protection, protection of personnel and hospital property.

· Participates in quality initiatives as needed.

· Be familiar with and comply with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook and Policies.

  • Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW3000 and Mid-Valley Hospital.

  • Maintains, creates, and organizes financial analytical reports utilizing a variety of data sources within the organization.
  • Prepare feasibility studies, financial forecasts and modeling, various ad-hoc financial projects, reports, and studies as assigned.
  • Create and maintain databases used for financial operations reporting and compliance.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Medicare Cost Report, RHC Reimbursement, payer contract negotiations, and reimbursement compliance.
  • Partner with the Director of Revenue Cycle and Revenue Cycle Analyst on projects involving revenue producing departments and overhead departments.
  • Work alongside department managers to ensure accuracy of monthly statistical reporting.
  • Participates in strategic planning, provider relations and business development activities.
  • Work alongside the Fiscal department to coordinate audit activities of financial auditors and other regulatory agency audits.
  • Evaluate analysis conducted by other departments and/or outside consultants and evaluate accuracy of assumptions and financial impact.
  • Provide decision support to executive management to identify key business issues, outline strategic alternatives, and recommend cost effective solutions.
  • Prepare and analyze departmental profit and loss statements, as requested.
  • Subject Matter Expert for DASH Premium, an advanced analytics tool for strategic decision-making.
  • Subject Matter Expert for facilities Electronic Health Record reporting platform.

· Extracts data using queries, organizing, and summarizing data using reports, and solving problems in unique ways.

· Develops a reporting strategy, including organizing resources to create and validate reports, prioritizing reporting requests to align with facility imperatives, and develops sustainable processes for analytical initiatives for organizational improvement.

  • Complete the annual Disproportionate Share Application and Examination, as required, to meet deadlines.
  • Participates in designing, implementing, and liaison for provider compensation models and aligning with organization strategies; to include analysis for RVU and quality metrics.
  • In the best interest of District, acts as an independent internal auditor, review activities of financial risk, reconciliations, and reporting accuracy. 

· Assist and guide the facility on cost savings and profit enhancement opportunities.

  • Perform market analysis and benchmarking to identify opportunities or mitigate risk or improve financial position.

· Other duties as assigned.

Mid-Valley Hospital offers a benefit package. This includes accrued vacation time in the amount of .076923 vacation hours per hour worked. Accrued sick leave at an accrual of .04615 per hour, Life insurance and a profit-sharing plan. We also offer medical, dental and vision insurance plans. Employees can enroll in a 403(b) deferred compensation plan and/or a 457 deferred compensation plan.

Requirements

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Math, Statistics, or related field 

 

Required Licensure / Certifications:

None Required

 

Required Experience:

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of Analytical tools including but not limited to Microsoft Excel & Access.

In lieu of bachelor’s degree, candidates may be considered with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in finance and/or financial analysis in a healthcare setting.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of RVU-based provider compensation models
Knowledge of Medicare Cost Report Preparation and analysis for reimbursement opportunities
Healthcare experience analyzing program/service line financial viability
Experience with VBA and SQL coding language
