Summary

The Early Intervention Evaluator conducts developmental evaluations and assessments for children ages birth to three who are suspected of having a developmental delay and/or who have a diagnosed condition that has a high probability of leading to a developmental delay. This includes conducting developmental screenings, evaluations, and assessments to determine eligibility for early intervention. The evaluator works with families to understand their concerns, priorities, and needs, and collaborates with other professionals to provide recommendations for appropriate support and therapy.

Experience Requirements (Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities) required include:

1. Minimum of two years of experience working with families and young children, and knowledgeable about child development.

2. Knowledgeable about early intervention and services for children with special needs.

3. Demonstrated experience with Standardized Evaluation and Assessment Tools.

4. Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., word processing software), email applications, and internet usage.

5. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records.

6. Demonstrated well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.

7. Demonstrated high degree of initiative and independent judgment.

8. Demonstrated ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines.

9. Demonstrated ability to demonstrate a high attention to detail and good follow-up skills.

10. Maintains a high level of energy and a consistent positive attitude

11. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a comprehensive record-keeping system and office procedures.

12. Demonstrated ability to work independently with general direction.

13. Demonstrated ability to tactfully and effectively deal with the public, staff, and patrons.

14. Ability to interact appropriately and professionally with children and families from diverse backgrounds, adapting to cultural and language issues

15. Evaluate and assess children in all five developmental domains as directed and/or required using approved evaluation tools, including child observation, parent interview, interpretation of medical or other professional reports as needed to evaluate the childs eligibility for Part C services and to assess the childs functioning in all domains.

16. Ability to write reports that are clear, thorough, and professional.

17. Demonstrated ability to present information effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.

18. Experience with Brittco, EIDS (Early Intervention Data System), and Adobe Acrobat preferred.

Education/License Requirements include:

Early Intervention Evaluator must meet both education/license requirements:

  • Master's or Bachelors degree in a field recognized by the Ohio Department of Children and Youth Policies. Must meet their professions regulatory and licensure or certification requirements for the State of Ohio. As of July 2024, fields include (but are not limited to): Audiologists, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Counselors, Educators, Family therapist, Hearing impairment interventionists, Marriage and family therapists, Nurses, Occupational therapists, Ophthalmologists, Orientation and mobility specialists, Physical therapists, Psychologists, Registered dieticians, Social workers, Speech and language pathologists, and Vision specialists.

AND

  • Must meet the requirements to obtain a developmental specialist certification. In accordance with rule 5123:2-5-05 of the Administrative code (attached), and meet the requirements to obtain and maintain a developmental specialist 5-year certification.

Completed coursework in Evaluation and Assessment, Infant/Toddler Growth and Development, Individualized Family Service Plan Development, Intervention Planning, and Service Delivery; Disabilities and Risk Factors from Birth; Family-Centered Services and Supports; and Team Collaboration preferred.

Valid Ohio Drivers License and appropriate insurance coverage.
