Director of Nursing (DON) – Long-Term Care

Location: Joshua Tree, CA

Employment Type: Full-Time | Day Shift

Facility Size: 120 Beds

Salary: $135,000–$195,000 (based on experience)

License Required: Active RN License (California)

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) for a full-time opportunity at a 120-bed Continuing Care Center in Joshua Tree, CA. This leadership role is ideal for a hands-on, operationally driven RN with a proven record in long-term care or subacute environments.

The DON will work closely with the CNO/COO and executive leadership to uphold regulatory compliance, drive clinical quality, and cultivate a supportive, team-oriented culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight for daily nursing operations
• Develop and implement nursing policies aligned with clinical best practices
• Supervise and mentor nurse managers and clinical staff
• Conduct routine rounds to evaluate resident outcomes and staff performance
• Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and service coordination
• Manage department budgets, both operational and capital
• Lead QAPI (Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement) initiatives
• Collaborate with physicians, the medical director, and acute hospital partners
• Ensure full regulatory compliance with state, federal, and accrediting bodies
• Respond decisively in emergency or crisis situations

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of California (in good standing)
• Minimum 5 years of nursing experience in a SNF, subacute, or acute care setting
• Minimum 3 years of leadership or nurse management experience
• Demonstrated success in improving clinical outcomes and staff development
• Strong communication, team leadership, and decision-making skills
• Current CPR certification
• BSN preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing required

Physical & Work Conditions

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and computer use
• Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs)
• Office-based work with regular clinical floor responsibilities
• Occasional kneeling, stooping, and crouching as needed
