Compass Coffee was founded in 2014 by two Marines who, after years of drinking terrible coffee on deployment, became obsessed with the quest for the perfect cup. What began as a desire to unlock the secret to perfect coffee grew into something much more significant. It was the realization that coffee is more than just a drink. It's a ritual that brings people together, facilitates human connection, and makes your day better. Compass Coffee has since expanded to 16 cafes in and around DC where Real Good Coffee is served and communities are formed. At the heart of it all is a relentless commitment to quality at every step - to ethical sourcing, masterful blending, and peak roasting in small batches - all to create an experience that is much more than just a cup of coffee.

As a Compass barista, you will:

• Create a welcoming atmosphere, and provide legendary customer service
• Seek opportunities to engage and connect with customers
• Craft drinks that uphold the quality standards our customers expect from us
• Taste coffee every day to expand your palette and coffee knowledge
• Support your fellow team members in upholding our mission
• Follow cleaning standards to ensure our cafes are fresh, clean and safe
• Continue to learn and growtraining is continuous in every role

You'll make a great barista if you are:

• A coffee lover! That includes drinking it, making it and talking about it

Basic Qualifications

• Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and/or holidays
• Uphold cafe operational standards
• Engage with and understand our customers, including discovering and responding to customer needs through clear and pleasant communication
• Prepare food and drinks to standard or customized customer requests
• Available to perform many different tasks within the cafe during each shift

Tip Eligibility

Please note: This role is eligible to receive tips in addition to your base pay. Tips are not guaranteed and may vary based on factors such as seasonality and team performance. While individual earnings will vary, the current average in tips across our cafes is approximately $6 per hour.
